We'd just moved into our first house. The price was higher than we'd hoped to pay but a parental basement is livable for only so long and bouncing around from tenement to tenement was no longer a good time. Basically, our finances were sparse. One money saving, but time consuming, plan of action was to shop for appliances on online classified ads. We figured we'd save about $2,800, but we were worried whether it would save us any money in the end. Who knew how well-maintained these machines had been. To solve this problem we hired an appliance service shop inspect all of our potential purchases. With only a small expense they could tell us if any of the machines were broken, battered, or otherwise damaged before we went through any purchases.
